What an exciting time to be a part of the YWCA Edmonton!

We have been delivering services to women and their families in the Edmonton region for more than 100 years - and now, a renewed sense of spirit propels us into a new era of young women's programming. How fitting that an organization dedicated to helping women during the turning points in their lives has reached a turning point of its own.

I am honoured to be part of this change, just as I am extremely proud of the rich history of the YWCA here in my hometown.

My own family utilized YWCA programs when I was a child, specifically the Host Family service, and it truly helped our household remain strong and gave me the opportunity to achieve my dreams. Now, with the introduction of girl-centered programming like GirlSpace and the Power of Being a Girl Conference, the YWCA Edmonton is shaping the next generation of leaders.

My proud Métis upbringing has taught me to respect my fellow creature and to put my heart into everything I do. Given this, it is a privilege to represent the YWCA Edmonton - a vibrant, innovative agency that espouses these values - and to be leading a group of women, my fellow Directors, who share these attributes of selflessness and respect.

I look forward to continued progress in raising the profile of our great organization over the next year. Our successes in 2008-2009, particularly the ever-inspiring Women of Distinction Gala, will enable us to continue adapting our programs to serve all the women in our community.
