Thanks to the generosity of numerous community partners and the decorating help of Edmonton graphic artist Justine Ma, we’ve been able to renovate two cabins and transform them into cozy, affordable lakeside getaways. One is a spacious yurt completely off the grid, the other is a charming log cabin with electricity and Wifi. All are welcome!
This has been a big project for our Camp Yowochas and YWCA Edmonton staff to pull off so quickly. We can’t thank them enough for going above and beyond to make The Cabins at Yowochas a reality. All proceeds from the cabin rentals will support operations at Camp Yowochas, a year-round outdoor education centre that has a proud history of running an array of programs, including a popular overnight children’s summer camp and Lakeside Haven, a retreat for women and children who have experienced domestic violence.
YWCA Edmonton has been operating Camp Yowochas on the shores of Wabamun Lake since 1916. It has remained open during two World Wars, Spanish Influenza, the Great Depression and now COVID-19.
While the pandemic has dramatically affected our overall camp operations, we are resolved to keep this magical place open and accessible. 2020 has been a stressful, uncertain time for many, and we hope The Cabins at Yowochas can become a safe, close and affordable refuge for those wanting to connect with nature. During a guest’s stay, they will be invited to explore the camp’s numerous trails or just sit by the lake and read a book.
This project was made possible by the generous support of numerous community partners and businesses. Many donated or discounted services and products, including IKEA Canada, Home Depot Canada, Cloverdale Paints, Divine Floors, The Adams Agency, Priority Printing, Cory Christopher Design and Nick Hirschmann Photography. We can’t thank them enough for their support.
