Youth Programs

Y-Space: Gender-Inclusive

Y-Space is a YWCA Edmonton pilot program. Y-Space, like GirlSpace, is a youth-led initiative. The distinction is that the content has been adapted to be gender-inclusive and neutral; workshops are provided to all youth at the same time, regardless of gender. Y-Space addresses key social issues facing youth in an inclusive manner.

GirlSpace: Taking Back Girl Talk

Unique from their male counterparts, girls face high rates of sexual violence and a significant decline in mental health as they enter adolescence and young adulthood. GirlSpaceZ is a virtual after-school program using the Zoom app. It is a safe space that welcomes and supports the many different experiences of being a girl.

“I always thought I was the only girl who felt she wasn’t good enough, smart enough, pretty enough. Now, I know that I am enough, and I can be anything I want to be. But the best part of GirlSpace? I met my best friend. We go through the hard times together now.”
