Today marks the 25th anniversary of National Indigenous Peoples Day, a day to celebrate, highlight and reflect upon the rich histories, cultures and achievements of First Nations, Inuit and Metis peoples. June 21 was chosen because it coincides with the summer solstice, a sacred and joyous time for many First Nations peoples because it marks the longest day of the year. Jane was born in 1946 and was raised in Edmonton.
Prior to her election to Edmonton City Council, she was the former Executive Assistant to former Edmonton Alderperson G. Lyall Roper, and the former Vice-President, Operations, and then a management consultant at Denny Andrews Inc.
Jane ran in two municipal elections before her successful run in 2001. She served as city councillor until her retirement in 2013. Jane was a member of the University Senate, and the Provincial Affairs Committee. She was on the Board of Directors of Odyssium (the former Edmonton Space and Science Centre) and Northlands Park.
